Coordinated police raids in 116 countries have resulted in the confiscation of 500 tons of illegal medical drugs available online, including fraudulent cancer medicines, fraudulent painkillers and illegal medical syringes, Interpol said. The Interpol organization, which is based in the French city of Lyon, said that the operation led to the arrest of 859 people and the confiscation of potentially dangerous medical drugs valued at about 14 million dollars. "The operation, which focused on delivery services exploited by organized crime networks, led to the closure of 3,671 electronic links, including websites, social media pages and online marketplaces," the organization added. In the past few years, the illegal drug trade on the Internet has increased as criminal gangs diversify their methods and seek to discover new customers through the Internet.
